There’s a whole different sub-genre of machinima that I haven’t shown here yet. It consists of music video montages — mixes of music and suitable scenes from a particular game. These mixes are generally humorous in nature and can be found for most popular games. While I originally stumbled upon this sub-genre a long while ago in a video that featured Halo, I’m going to start things off by sharing a TF2 one, the current flavor of the month. Enjoy.

You might want to start with episode one if you haven’t already.

This particular machinima short, recently released by Sam Goldwater of PolygonFiction, speaks [volumes] for itself. It seems fitting that it’d be posted here at DownloadableSuicide.

Sometimes fan fiction sucks. Correction, most fan fiction sucks. [editor: fan fiction sucks] However, this fan fiction, written by a nine year old going by the name of squirrelking, was so bad that it motivated another guy (blind51de) to visualize it using his l33t Garrys Mod skills for all of us to enjoy. This was the result.

This is the second episode of This Spartan Life, the machinima talk show within Halo that I talked about earlier. If you haven’t seen episode one yet, I suggest you head over and watch that first.
This second episode (31 min.) features guests Marty O’Donnell, writer and producer of the original scores for the Halo series, and The ILL Clan, pioneers in the art of prerendered and live machinima performances using Quake.

Today I have a double-feature for you. These gems from Feisar have gotten little to no attention from any of the sites that I visit, and it’s only by luck that I ran across them and am now able to share them with you now. Neither of them would qualify as a typical machinima short film. They’re both thoughtful, emotional and delicately paced. If you think you can handle that, then enjoy a couple of what I think are great examples of this art form’s potential and richness.
